Save Bhojpuri Language and Culture

Bhojpuri language and culture is very old. Here we are proud of being connected to Kunwar Singh, Ustaad Bismillah Khan, Dr. Rajendra Prasad, Mangal Pandey, Bhikhari Thakur etc. But now Bhojpuri has been defamed as a vulgar language. Bhojpuri folk music has a rich tradition. It has so many variety which you cannot find in any other Language. Here we have songs for every occasion. But now a trend is working here to be vulgar and 'Ashlil'. If we see albums of Bhojpuri songs we feel ashamed. We cannot hear the songs in front of our family.

Even Singer Like Bharat Sharma and Vishnu Ojha have started singing such songs which are 'Ashlil'. It is strange that social organisation are still tolerating such vulgarity in songs.

Yes there are some genuine singers like Bimlesh Tiwari Kaushal, M. K. Singh etc.. They have sung very good songs in Bhojpuri language..

Bimlesh Kaushal's famous song "Kanhawa bhulail shabad ramaini, bisral jhanjh majira ji' is pure poetry... and melodious too... If you go through Bimlesh Kaushal's Album 'Karishma ke Bahin Chahin', you will come to know that how he has told the beauty of a woman, problem of dowry system, and family problems of the Bhojpuriyas. M. K. Singh has done the same in his album 'Ruk ja sajanwa'.

Now the question is: how this difference has occurred.

Bharat Sharma and all the other singers sing song for money. They are totally illiterate too. They don't think about Bhojpuri language and culture. Their main aim is to earn money.

But Bimlesh Tiwari Kaushal has done MA in Hindi Literature, and doing PhD on Modernity and Folk Culture in Poetry. M. K. Singh is an IPS Officer. They want to do some work in the field of Bhojpuri language and music.

It is our duty to encourage such Bhojpuri singers who think about Bhojpuri language and culture. Otherwise we will always be shamed by others that Bhojpuri means 'Gali-Galauj'.

Bimlesh Tiwari Kaushal aur M. K. Singh ke cd 'album' kahaan mili?? - Ranjit Varma, USA - June 4, 2008

I had an opportunity to read on PD a beautiful write-up entitled "Save Bhojpuri Language and Culture" by Rahul Singh who has expressed his anger against the singers selling out this language for their own interest and at the same time he boosts up the morale of new talents like Bimlesh Kaushal by giving a bold pat on his back. In fact, this kind of article was long awaited. So, a lot of kudos to Shri Singh !!!

I do agree with Shri Rahul Singh that the condition of the Bhojpuri language , although widely known to the world is so deplorable and pitiable that the people like me whose mother tongue is Maithili is compelled to voice the deep anguish and concern. Thanks to the budding literary and singing talents like Bimlesh Tripathi Kaushal, the crestfallen head of this sweet language is sure to be held in high. Unlike other Bhojpuri writers , poets and singers who are sliting the neck of Bhojpuri in hope of earning more and more money, Bimlesh Tripathi Kaushal has come up with some balm in form of his new Album 'Karishma ke Bahin Chahin'.

Bimlesh Kaushal needs no introduction. To the people with great love and respect for Bhojpuri, he is a well known literary figure. Prior to releasing the song CD, he has been writing and publishing various literary articles not only in Bhojpuri but also in Hindi.

I cant help but greatly welcoming the people like him who want to do something worthwhile for their own language, rite and rituals, customs etc. Three Cheers to him! - Bhaskaranand Jha, Kolkata - June 12, 2008

Thanks Rahul Singhji, Ranjeet Verma Saheb, and Bhasker Bhai, glad to know that my work towards Bhojpuri language has been appreciated by you. Actually my main aim is to give healthy entertainment to the Bhojpuriya.. We have lots of things to do. Now I am glad to inform you that my songs are also available on www.surmasi.com and www.biharandjharkhand.com.

And mujhe bahut khushi hai ki mere geeton ko bahut pasand kiya ja raha hai, I am very satisfied.

Thanks to the Bhojpuri bhai log aur humra Bharat ke mitti jahan se ham sabke anna mil rahal ba aur jekra godi me khel kud ke hum sab pali badhi rahal bani ja. - Bimlesh Tiwari Kaushal - June 23, 2008

Dear Bimleshjee,

Nice to see your reply. Actually it's a very big problem for Bhojpuri language and culture. We the people should fight against this big problem. I hope you will keep singing and fighting against it.

Best of luck. - Rahul Singh - July 9, 2008

Dear Bimlesh Bhai,

I am really glad to read this article. I have been working on ship since last 8 years and on ship we used to argue always on status of Bihar with others like Mumbaiyas and Delhi'ites. I used to be alone those days in this type of arguments but apan mitti ke baate kuchh aur ba. EK BIHARI SAAB PAR BHARI. Today I am proud that I do have backup.

Keep it up. - Santosh Singh, Ramgarh, Jharkhand. (Basically from Sitabdiyara, Saran) - July 19, 2008
