In a stark reminder of Lalu Prasad Yadav’s failed and highly-ridiculed idea of setting up ‘Charwaha’ schools in Bihar in an attempt to raise the standard of education in the state, Education Minister Vijay Kumar Chowdhary said that Bihar will soon mandate mother tongue of the region as the medium of teaching in all elementary schools to give a boost to education.

So, if a child’s mother tongue was Bhojpuri, he or she would be taught in Bhojpuri. Same with Magahi and Maithili, he said adding this was in accordance with the New Education Policy of the Modi government.

“This will make it easier for the children to understand their subjects,” Chowdhary said.

He, however, did not say how in what regional language a child would be taught whose mother tongue was not the mother tongue of the region as a result of a job transfer of one of the parents.

Chowdhary then went on to tout the accomplishments of the Nitish administration in the education area including introduction of schemes like school uniform, mid-day meal, and bicycle for girl students.
