Arun Kumar Singh, Bihar Chief Secretary, died at a local hospital in Patna on Friday due to complications arising from Coronavirus. A 1985-batch Bihar cadre IAS officer, Singh was appointed the Chief Secretary of Bihar only a couple of months ago on February 27, 2021.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar sent his condolence to the family of Singh saying he was extremely pained by the sudden passing away of the Chief Secretary while also ordering a full state funeral for him.
In his condolence message Kumar said here that Mr Singh was an able administrator and his death was like an irrepairable loss to the administration and society.
Kumar had sent nearly identical, boilerplate condolences to state Industry Director Pankaj Kumar Singh who died due to coronavirus infection on April 28 and Mewalal Choudhary, Janata Dal – U legislator who also became the victim of COVID-19 on April 19.
Meanwhile, Bihar registered over 15,000 new cases of Coronavirus (COVID-19) in the last 24 hours on Friday with Patna topping the list with 2844 new cases followed by Gaya that registered 1203 new positive cases of the deadly virus.
Keeping up with the history of his working style that involves senior officials, bureaucrats, and a few trusted state ministers and legislators, the Chief Minister held yet another ‘high-level’ meeting on Friday during which he cleared eleven ‘agendas’ to deal with the ever-growing cases of Coronavirus in the state.
Kumar, who has been quick in announcing financial compensation to the family of any victim perhaps believing it absolves him of any other liability or responsibility towards the people of Bihar, said that a special pension has been created for the surviving families of any government official who succumbs to the pandemic.
COVID-19 is not showing any sign of slowing down in Bihar as well as across the nation thanks to a lack of any cohesive policy including reluctance to impose a complete lockdown that will likely break the chain as advised by medical fraternity worldwide.
Reports from Siwan said notorious gangster and former MP from Bihar Mohammed Shahabuddin was also found to be corona positive. He was shifted to the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital in Delhi for treatment.
