Patna: Kishori Sinha, former MP and a lifelong advocate of women's empowerment, was cremated with full state honors at the Kaunhara Ghat in Hajipur on Wednesday.
Mrs. Sinha, whose political life stretched to over six decades, died of health problems at a private hospital in Patna on Monday. She was 91.
Wife of former Bihar Chief Minister Satyendra Narayan Singh, Mrs. Sinha's mortal remain was consigned to flames by her son and former Governor of Nagaland and Kerala Nikhil Kumar.
Those present at the cremation included Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Deputy Chief Minister Tejaswi Yadav, Education Minister and Congress leader Ashok Kumar Chowdhary, and Art and Culture Minister Shivchandra Ram, among other leaders, friends, family members, and well-wishers.
The Chief Minister who was scheduled to resume his ongoing 'Nishchay Yatra' from Aurangabad on Wednesday, postponed his program for a future date keeping in view of the fact that Aurangabad was the 'sasural', or the husband's home, of Mrs. Sinha.
