Patna: Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Central Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad, in a photo-op with Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi and other BJP leaders, picked up the shovel on Saturday in Patna and picked up garbage as part of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Clean India' campaign.

Among others who also participated in today's 'Politicians' Acting as Janitors' episode included Patna Mayor Sita Sahu; whose office is responsible for keeping Patna clean in the first place; BJP state president Nityanand Rai, and BJP legislator Nitin Navin.

While Ravi Shankar Prasad, wearing spotless white khadi kurta-pajama, helped remove trash in Mithapur area, Modi was playing garbage collector in Musallahpur Hat at the other end of the town.

"As part of our civic duties, we should help keep our cities clean and teach others not to throw trash on streets that are not only eyesores but are also unhygienic that leads to all sorts of disease," Prasad, who is a Patna native, said.

Earlier, party leaders sat through a nationwide video address of Prime Minister Narendra Modi who spoke on the importance of cleanliness and hygiene as part of a strong nation.
